Vi er nu en måned inde i det nye år, og den verdenskendte vinanmelder James Suckling er klar med sin liste over de 100 bedste vine smagt i 2023. På førstepladsen finder vi en champagne.

James Suckling Top 100

James Suckling har offentliggjort sin Top 100-liste over de bedste vine i 2023. Med mere end 39.000 vine smagt af ham selv og hans team har de samtidig slået deres egen rekord fra 2022, hvor 32.000 vine blev anmeldt.

På Top 100-listen finder man fire champagner, og førstepladsen indtages af Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle No. 26, som dermed kåres til årets vin.

1. pladsen (100 point)

Laurent Perrier Grand Siécle no. 26.

This is really something. Electric on the palate. The aromas are so complex with sliced fresh and dried ginger, subtle pie crust, tarte tatin and hints of nutmeg with some salted caramel. Toasted bread, too. Always subtle. The palate is full- to medium-bodied yet hemmed-in with a freshness and balance that draws you back. Savory and vibrant. It's full of energy. Spectacular. Fascinating. Symphonic blend of 2012, 2008 and 2007. 65% of the 2012, 25% of the 2008 and 10% of the 2007. Eight grand cru. Chardonnay 58% and 42% pinot noir. Disgorged February 2023. 10 years on the lees. 7g/L dosage. Drink or hold.

64. pladsen (99 point)

Krug Grande Cuvée 171éme.

The tightness and tension of this is impressive considering the youngest wine from this is 2015 (hot and dry year), with some wines going back to 2000. Ginger and orange zest. Some creme brulee. It's medium-bodied with apple, pie crust and floral character. It's salty and zesty yet, at the same time, complex and gorgeous. Chamomile and other floral teas highlight everything. Turns rich and flavorful at the finish. Terrific release. Really takes off at the end. Drink or hold.

Marguet Les Beurys Vintage 2018

Intensely smoky and flinty, also almost blindingly fresh, this is a dangerously chalky Champagne. The bergamot aroma expands dramatically as it aerates in the glass. Extremely concentrated Amalfi lemon character on the super-focused palate, building and building at the driving chalky finish that doesn't want to let go of you. 100% chardonnay planted on a steep slope in 1981. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Disgorged on March 8th 2023. Drink or hold.

99. pladsen (99 point)

Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage 2008

This is a super Champagne with roses, strawberries and orange peel on the nose but then it's medium-boded with a raciness and beauty. Drink or hold.
